The last few times I've seen the turkeys there have been the three adults and only 3 or 4 young ones, which makes me think the coyotes have been busy. (We may still have a fox or two as well.) I haz a sad.
Here in North Suburbia we have the most disgusting piece of property in the world, unless you are ten and like to sleigh ride. Out of my sliding glass doors of the family room for many years was a pile of wood, a falling apart dog house, some sandy, clay-like soil and then the descent!
Well the dog house was disassembled and some of the pieces taken to the dump and the others added to the pile of wood which was moved to the side of the house.
And now, I present to you...THE PATIO~~~!!!
Cubs at the San Diego Wild Animal Park
So by now most of you know I'm a zoo freak and on my recent California trip I visited the Los Angeles zoo, the Long Beach aquarium, the San diego zoo (for 2 days) and the San diego Wild Animal Park. So slightly more than 1/3 of my trip was spent viewing animals.
I did not get any good pix of the otters at the Long Beach aquarium, but I found out that when otters nap they "anchor" themselves with sea kelp (I think, a plant) so they don't float away. Now how cute is that?
But here are some guests at the San diego zoo using the facilities just because they are there! Just some local ducks who like this "stream" they have going around a stage where they put on animal shows.
Hence the first Annie inspiration. Now secondly over on CuteTalk she posted a link to a David Attenborough (sp?) nature program and this was one of the star's relatives at the zoo.
Number of uninvited guests in yard upon arriving home last night:

Deer: 3
Daylillies:

Normal (animal free) yield for a July evening: a pint
Last night: 25 berries

crossing all bendy bits and holding breath!
I am sorry to report that during the night, the hens & chicks from a previous post were ripped out of the ground, bitten into and spit out. They have been replanted, but are in critical condition. Tune in on Sunday for more updates.
If was so disgusted last night I forgot to mention the disappearance of ALL daylilly buds. I have at least 10 to 12 feet of day lillies.
